Hampton Court Palace and Gardens

Hampton Court Palace and Gardens

Hello guys! Let’s continue our England journey 🙂 !

The next stop is Hampton Court Palace!

This magnificient Royal Palace really captured my interest! 🙂

Hampton Court is located just 19 kilometers southwest of London on the shore of the River Thames. This royal palace is a true gem of Tudor and Baroque architecture style!

Some History

The Palace was originally built for the Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, the chief minister of Henry VIII, in 1514.

This impressive Palace, then became the home of Henry VIII and his six wives: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and at the end Catherine Parr.

When the king William III and Mary II took the throne in 1689, they commissioned Sir Cristopher Wren (English architect, physician and mathematical) to build an elegant new baroque palace, so a new part of the castle was built.

Later, Georgian kings and princes occupied the splendid interiors.

Queen Victoria opened the palace to the public in 1838.

This majestic place has also been used to film some parts of Bridgerton 😍🥰 and the serie Queen Charlotte 🙂 !

In the first two photos, I am standing, on the King’s staircase, where Queen Charlotte (in the Serie) walked, followed by Brimsley, the Queen’s right hand, in the first episode before meeting king George and her coronation!

The serie Bridgerton has also been filmed here, as you can see in the third photo, in the palace courtyard (Fountain Court), is where, again, Queen Charlotte has, for ex. her supper, tea during the day or in another episode, she is walking followed by Brimsley and the women in waiting, making sure everything is ready before the Viscount’s and miss Edwina’s then failed wedding (in season two).

Its magnificent palace Gardens

After walking around, admiring the beauty inside the walls of this palace, we went to see its gardens!

It was so lovely wandering around the gardens! Almost like in a fairytale✨ 🙂 !

Here are some gardens:

The Great Fountain Garden

It was William III and Mary II who decided to create this garden, to complement their new baroque palace!

The Great Fountain Garden became an highlight for the visitors once Queen Victoria opened the palace (1838) to the public!

The Privy baroque Garden (used to film Bridgerton!)

The Privy garden which means private garden was created, to allow to have a silent space for the monarch’s exclusive use. This garden has existed since the reign of Henry VIII.

Today, it’s a restoration of William III’s baroque Privy garden of 1702.

The Pond Gardens

These gardens were at the beginning fish ponds created for Henry VIII. Later Mary II transformed these ponds into sunken gardens to show her exotic, rare plant collection.

So, I really loved seeing all the gardens surrounding the palace, in particular the ones I mentioned 🙂 ! 😍😍

You can also find a cafeteria hidden around the big gardens, where you can enjoy a cup of tea or something to eat…

Tips for your visit:

  • Remember to book your tickets in advance, especially during high season.
  • Bring comfortable shoes, you will be doing a lot of walking!
this beautiful visit has been a nice experience 🙂 !! We spent three hours there 🙂 !

See you 🙂 !
