Oxford (England)

Oxford (England)

Hi guys :), it’s time “to take you with me to Oxford” 🙂 !

My family and I almost spent a day there 🙂 walking around, visiting places! it’s quite a bustling city 😊 but also charming!

Introduction

Oxford is a beautiful, old city in Oxfordshire, England, renowned worldwide for its prestigious university. But beyond that, this charming city is known for its stunning architecture, rich literature heritage!

Here are some things to see and visit!

  • The Carfax Tower
  • The Bridge of sighs
  • The Old Bodleian Library
  • New College
  • The Carfax Tower and the Bridge of Sighs

The Carfax Tower was built in 1818. This building is the historical centre point of Oxford and all that remains today from St. Martin’s Church, which was built in the early eleventh century! The tower’s name, “Carfax,” comes from the Latin “quadrivium,” meaning “four roads,” as it stands at the intersection of four main streets in the city center. I would recommend you to climb to the top of the Tower for breathtaking views! 🙂

Another must-see attraction is the Bridge of Sighs😍! Its actual name is the Hertford Bridge but it is famously known as the Bridge of Sighs due to its similarity to The Bridge of Sighs in Venice! Completed in 1914, This iconic bridge, connects Hertford College and New College. Its architecture has both Gothic and Renaissance elements! Furthermore, it’s a popular spot for photos and a symbol of Oxford’s romantic charm.

  • The Old Bodleain Library

One of the most iconic monuments in Oxford is the Old Bodleian Library. This magnificent building is an architectural masterpiece. Step inside and be transported back in time as you explore its vast collection of rare books and manuscripts! This was for me one of my favourite spots in Oxford 😍 🙂 We went inside there, with a guide!

  • New College

New College is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges at Oxford University. In fact it was founded in 1379 by William of Wykeham (Bishop of Winchester). Its beautiful cloisters, gardens, and chapel are a testament to the college’s rich history. Take a stroll through the grounds and imagine what it was like to study here centuries ago!

In one of my next blog posts I’ll talk about some of Harry Potter’s filming locations, that I went to see 😍 🙂

See you 🙂 !!
