Embrace your own uniqueness!

Hi guys 🙂 time for a new blog post! 😊 (on Feeling Good with Sofy❤️)

In this article I will talk about the beauty of being unique, some tips… 😊
Pay attention:
In many of my wellness articles, I write also about some tough moments that I’ve been going through in my life, (or i’m going through) so if you are not feeling in the mood, you are struggling with your own mental health, and etc. feel free to read my articles or not. It’s up to you! :)❤️

I’m going to start this article by saying: Be You, and Not Them! 🙂

Struggling for years to accept my own uniqueness

Growing up, since a child, I struggled a lot with my self-esteem, with accepting myself, I didn’t feel good enough, I was comparing myself a lot (still happens…it’s a journey) to others especially when I discovered that I had learning disorders like dyscalculia (still have). I didn’t feel that I had potentialities, that I was special in some way.

Modeling was one of the first things that made me start appreciating my own uniqueness.

Surrounded by negative, cynical people

I’ve been surrounded for quite a lot of time (in the past) by toxic people. I attended for five years a small high-school where the people there (not all of them) where not open-minded at all. Besides from toxic classmates, even some professors were also immature enough to say mean things to me or around my back so I could hear.

You see, I’ve been having different kind of goals in life compared to many of my schoolmates and that wasn’t appreciated and respected by some professors.

A small-minded perspective

Professors (some of them) expected that everyone should take their school degree, go to university and then get a job. And it’s fine, I mean, people who want that, go for it, but not all of us like or don’t want to take this road, after finishing school.

I wanted to become a model, a professional one and when word got out, both professors and students were looking at me as if I was crazy enough to have such a dream. I hated how people there were giving me also scornful, mean looks just to make me feel even worse.

What are you thinking?! (From a professor in high-school)

An episode that happened just few months before finishing high-school.

I was at home, having a language lesson (it was in 2021 so covid was still a problem…, some days we were at school and others not) this professor, quite at the beginning of the lesson, started asking each and everyone of us what we wanted to do in the future and she was positive (because everyone practically said I’m going to study this and that and so on…) untill she asked me.

I have to admit that I was excited and proud to share my plans about becoming a model, traveling the world with this job, I felt good while telling but then the professor just looked at me with a not happy face and started saying to me that this was not a good idea at all.

I don’t remember the exact words she said because I was so angry at her, I was tearful at that moment but I know what she meant in general, which was practically take the safe path, like go and study in Paris while you model a bit.

The strength of not giving up!

This episode has first of all shattered me but then after crying, talking to trusted people, I told myself:“I’ll keep going towards my dreams, no matter what people think, believe. It’s my dream, not theirs!”

It was after this bad episode, that I wrote on my Instagram profile Embrace your own uniqueness

Tips along the way:

  • Let’s try to be more gentle towards others and ourselves and embrace our own unique journeys!
  • Write down on post-its, or on your journal (for ex.) things which remind you of your own uniqueness!
  • Try to surround yourself, as much as you can, with people who support you, accept you as the way you are! I know, it can be difficult, especially if you are going to school (for ex.) but try at least to find someone who is supportive or if not, a family member, a therapist, and etc.
I’m going to end this article with this powerful, quote, affirmation:

“No one is you and that is your super power!” 🙂

As Dave Grohl (American author and motivational speaker) says: No one is you and that is your super power! 🙂 ❤️ I couldn’t agree more! We are all unique, special in our own ways and that is also why the world is a better place to live. Imagine how boring it would have been if everyone would have done the same job and so on….wouldn’t it 🙂 ?

So, Be You 🙂

Love and Lightness ❤️✨
