My three favourite Stockholm Cafes (Second Part)

Hi guys! In this article, I write about other three cafes in Stockholm (Sweden) which I love! 😊

You can find my first article on this theme on this link: https://feelinggoodwithsofy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=550&action=edit

As I have already written in my first Stockholm café article, Swedes are used to take a Swedish Fika in their daily life!

In the past, Swedish fika consisted mainly of coffee and a pastry.

Nowadays, Swedes enjoy also salty things, such as sandwiches, accompanied usually with tea or coffee. Furthermore, Swedish fika, is not just about what you eat and drink, it’s also a time to take a pause from work, from other daily activities, to enjoy the moment, and also to catch up with family, friends, or colleagues.

Some history…

Coffee and fika hold a prominent place in Swedish culture.

The tradition of fika in Sweden is traced back to the the early 1900s

  • Coffee first arrived in Sweden in 1685, but it was at the beginning expensive so it was just enjoyed by wealthy people. Coffee became more common and widespread in the 18th century. Over time, coffee houses started popping up, in the 19th century. These cafes became places of social gatherings and the idea of pairing coffee with something sweet emerged.
  • The word “fika” itself is thought to be a playful reversal of the syllables in the old Swedish word for coffee, “kaffi”. The word fika works both as a verb and a noun.
  • By the early 20th century, the concept of fika became a cherished tradition across all social classes in Sweden.

Three cafes in Stockholm, which I recommend you to try 🥰

  • Vete-Katten café
Vete-Katten café is one of the most renowned and oldest cafes in Stockholm!
Vete-Katten in different areas of the city

Vete-Katten is located in different places in Stockholm, such as at Fridhemsplan (St. Eriksgatan 41), at Södermalm (Götgatan 81), in Central Stockholm (at Kungsgatan 55), at T-Centralen (Hamngatan 37), in the centre mall called Gallerian and etc!

My favourite one is situated at Kungsgatan. It’s quite big inside, there is both a newer part as well as an older part!

I prefer the older one, because it’s cozier and more welcoming in my point of view! 🙂

I usually love to go there early in the morning, when there is practically no one there, so I can enjoy more peacefully the beautiful environment, the food 🙂

The furniture inside this old part of the café is stunning and charming! It brings calming, positive vibes, in my opinion! 🙂 I love also to sit there and journal while sipping on tea!

At Veke-Katten you can enjoy delicious homemade breakfasts, meals, home-baked pastries!

When I go there, I usually take in the morning, their good green tea (Vete-Kattens gröna), accompanied with a nice sandwich, or their delicious chia pudding topped with müsli or their Turkish yoghurt topped with granola and berries.

The newer part of the café

This is the newer part of the café at Kungsgatan! It’s pretty here too 🙂 I find it fascinating that there is both an older and a newer part in the same café, so you can decide also where you want to enjoy your fika, meal!

  • Fika and Wine

Another cozy place to have a good fika, or lunches and dinners is the café Fika and Wine located in the Old Town, near the royal castle, more specifically at Österlånggatan 5.

As you can see from these photos, the atmosphere is super cozy and welcoming! The interior of this café is homey, beautiful and comfortable! There are many small, beautiful details, which I admire everytime I go there, making this café unique and special! 🙂 I enjoy going there especially in the evenings, when the place is lighted by candles, candlesticks, small bulbs.

One of my favourite meals there is their healthy, flavourful carrot soup. They have also homemade meatballs and other nice dishes! For fika, I love their saffron bun (if it is Christmas time), otherwise, their cardamom bun😍. They have several sweets, which you can choose…

  • Fabrique Stenugnsbageri

Fabrique Stenugnsbageri is a further favourite café of mine!

As with Vete-Katten, Fabrique Stenugnsbageri is situated in different locations in Stockholm. While strolling through the city, you can find smaller and bigger Fabrique cafes. One of my favourites is located in the Old town!

There are aesthetic vibes in Fabrique cafes, with a rustic, vintage, cozy environment which I also really like! 😍😍

Fabrique is famous for its exquisite, homemade sourdough bread and home-baked pastries! I adore particularly their sandwiches (see third photo), their almond cake, (see sixth photo), together with tea or a good oat latte!

See you soon!
