Hello everyone! 😊
In this new travel article I’ll be talking about the stunning area of Cilento, followed by some places I myself have been to this summer!
A hidden gem in Southern Italy
Located in the province of Salerno, within the Campania region, Cilento is a sprawling landscape that seamlessly blends a rich history—like the ancient Greek temples of Paestum—with a vibrant culinary scene.
What truly captivated me in Cilento was the stunning landscape. The region is a paradise of contrasts, from its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters to its serene, sun- drenched beaches. I also loved exploring the history of the region, visiting the Paestum’s archeological site and the charming town of Castellabate, both of which are Unesco World Heritage Sites. During my stay, I was based in the picturesque seaside town of Marina di Camerota.
Marina di Camerota
My family and I spent nine nights in this charming coastal town. We really took our time, enjoying the chance to relax on the beaches, discover secluded coves for a swim, stroll through the town, and, of course, indulge in the delicious local food!
The Passeggiata delle Quattro Spiagge (Path of the Four Beaches)
A highlight of our trip from Marina di Camerota was discovering the Path of the Four Beaches. This scenic trail winds its way along the coast, offering access to four different coves. We often stopped to take in the breathtaking views and enjoy a swim in the pristine waters.

Boat trip along the Cilento coast
One morning, we embarked on a short but delightful boat trip along the Cilento-Camerota coast with a local guide. He led us to a series of stunning sea caves, each with its own unique history and charm. We explored caves such as the legendary Cave of Lovers and the mesmerizing Blue Grotto, and our trip ended on a high note at the beautiful Pozzallo beach!

The Local Cuisine of Cilento
Throughout our trip, we made sure to indulge in the culinary delights of the region. Whether we were grabbing a quick bite during an excursion or enjoying a leisurely dinner back in Marina di camerota, the local food was always a highlight.
At its heart, the local cuisine of Cilento is rooted in the mediterranean diet and its humble peasant traditions. It’s defined by its use of authentic local ingredients like legumes, vegetables and ancient grains.
Being so close to Battipaglia—the heartland of mozzarella di Bufala Campana production—means that this famous cheese is widely used in Cilento’s cuisine. The difference in texture and flavor is remarkable; the taste of authentic mozzarella di Bufala Campana here is on another level, quite unlike the versions we find in most places.

The Magnificent Archeological Site of Paestum
One of my favourite excursions was visiting the incredible archeological site of Paestum! Considered the nothern gateway to the Cilento National park, it’s a testament to the region’s rich history.
While the museum is well worth a visit, it was the outdoor archeological park that truly left me speechless. This sprawling park contains the foundations of an entire ancient Greek city—from homes and theaters to its three magnificent Greek temples—all of which stand as a testament to its grandeur.
Each of the three magnificent temples—dedicated to Neptune, Hera and Athena—is a marvel in its own right. They stand as some of the most well-preserved ancient Greek structures in the world, each with a distinct character and history!

The charming, Medieval Borgo of Castellabate
After visiting Paestum, we had of course to visit the renowned medieval village of Castellbate! A Unesco World Heritage Site, and it’s no wonder! Perched on a hilltop, this gem offers stunning panoramic views, but besides that, I found that wandering through the picturesque, narrow streets and discovering beautiful details here and there was such an experience.
Another highlight of this place is that the film Benvenuti al Sud was filmed here. As I walked through the borgo, I immediately recognized the post office from the movie—it’s still there!

Palinuro, a Coastal Gem
Besides relaxing on the beaches in Marina di Camerota, we also enjoyed sunbathing and swimming in Palinuro’s stunning crystal-clear waters!
The proximity of Palinuro to Marina di Camerota made it incredibly convenient to explore both stunning areas!
We walked through pine forests to reach our destination—the beach. I really enjoyed the spectacular natural landscape of Palinuro. The area is famous for its dramatic and beautiful coastline, characterized by sheer cliffs and the distinctive pentadactyl rock formations of Cape Palinuro.

Cilento: an Unforgettable Experience
My time in Cilento was beautiful and adventurous. I will never forget this trip: from swimming in pristine waters and admiring the ancient Temples, to eating the delicious delights of this area!
For an unforgettable experience in Italy, I highly recommend a trip to the Campania region, and discovering the beauty of Cilento, lovely charm and stunning coastal towns!
