Hi eveyone!😊 Time for a new feel-good article!❤️
I’m going to discuss how to find balance with the help of routines while at the same time navigating depression.
First of all…
The meaning of routine: a routine is a series of activities throughout the day, from waking to going to bed, that combines all the small tasks.
Having depression is a true struggle. It can really disrupt your days, making you feel so overwhelmed and fatigued. Depression demotivates you from accomplishing daily tasks; even the simple ones can become too overwhelming and exhausting.
Finding Support Through Routines
I’ve been familiar with routines for quite a while now, but it was not until I got severely depressed that I started finding support in having routines in my daily life. It was my therapist❤️ who told me that when you are unwell, routines are important to get through the day.
In fact, during my healing journey (I’m still on it❤️), I’ve noticed how routines give me a sense of emotional security and calmness. By knowing what my routines are, I feel more in control and, in turn, more motivated.
An important note:
Depression can be really tricky, and some days it’s much harder to stick to a routine. Remember to be kind to yourself, also in those moments
What A Daily Routine May Look Like
Routines vary from person to person; however, let’s stick to a simple daily, achievable routine, especially when suffering from depression.
- Putting a gentle alarm the night before.
- Getting your morning hydration, starting with water.
- A balanced, nourishing breakfast.
- A simple skincare routine that, over time, can help you feel better.
- A relaxing activity like a meditation session, deep breathing exercises.
- Going at least 10 minutes in the sunlight.
- Having lunch (If it requires too much energy, ask a loved one to help you, or cook something simple or order in.
- Having a therapy session with your therapist.
- Watching a feel-good film or something that at least keeps your brain occupied so you can take a break from challenging thoughts.
- Having dinner
- Small self-love acts before bed, like adding some ethereal lavender oil to your hands.
This is just an example of what a routine can look like, so feel free to adjust it to your own needs. As you’ve probably noticed, I included some of the most important things like staying hydrated and eating your meals.
One ritual, task at a time…
It’s easy to panic when you’re depressed, as the weight on your shoulders can feel overwhelming and make you feel like doing nothing.
From experience, I’ve noticed and keep noticing how the practice of mindfulness keeps me more rooted and grounded in what I’m doing. For example, if I wake up feeling heavy and emotionally unstable, I focus on just one thing at a time. When I’ve done my morning skincare, I compliment myself for the strength it took to accomplish this ritual.
Another tip is to write down your daily routine on paper, especially the hardest tasks for you. Once you’ve dealt with them cross them off and hug yourself for your perseverance and bravery! ❤️
Each thing you do, even the smallest one, is a win. You are a warrior and will remain a warrior no matter what depression tells you otherwise!
Much Love and Light ❤️✨
Sofia Lena 😊
