Let’s dive back in!
Catching up from where I left…
Before diving back into the next chapter of my story, I wanted to catch up on some few things that happened.
The biggest update is that I broke ties with my mother agency. Despite working really hard with a good photographer to create a beautiful book, the agency was not able to find any suitable booking agency for me. This was such a disappointment for me, but I refused to give up, because modeling was my biggest dream. 🙂
Taking control: the skin issue and new polas
Next, I got help with my acne problem. We decided to take it more seriously this time. Once my skin was finally back to normal—around the end of my high school period—I finally began contacting booking agencies again, and this time on my own. I had a new fresh set of polas (polaroids) which my incredibly talented mom took! 😉🥰
From nothing to more than I would have expected 😊
I started sending those photos out to various booking agencies, making sure to hit a wide range—both to top-tier ones and the more modest agencies with fewer potential clients.
Within a few days, I was contacted by three modest agencies, all of whom wanted to see me! This was a new step I had never taken before, and it felt like a huge victory for me! And I honestly also felt really proud and happy.
But the biggest, unexpected surprise came a little later. I think it was about a week later, when a top agency reached out and wanted to see me—I truly had no words! 🙂
My first impressions with the different agencies
- The modest agencies (A good start!)
The first three appointments I had were with the modest agencies, and I was absolutely thrilled—I had never even been inside a booking agency before!
Especially the first two agencies treated me really well. They took me through the typical process: they asked any prior modeling experience, or if I had ever worked for a brand. They also checked my age, took my measurements, and asked me to walk in high heels for them. I genuinely appreciated their honesty about how much I needed to improve my walk, but they both gave me a good feedback overall. I left those meetings feeling so happy and encouraged.😊
Before jumping into the story of the top agency, I need to talk about the third modest agency—the one I’m honestly glad never called me back. That meeting was completely different. They practically didn’t talk to me at all. Their only real concern was whether I was slim enough; they offered zero feedback on my walk or my potential. They simply said: “Okay, if we want you in our agency we’ll let you know.” It was a completely flat, impersonal experience.
- The Top Agency (The Game Changer)
Now, let’s talk about the top agency, which was also a completely new experience. This meeting gave me the strength to show them my potentialities and to fight hard.
First of all, I was immediately struck by the office itself. The atmosphere was on a completely different level; it was sleek and professional.
While I was waiting—my heart racing, of course—one of the secretaries handed me a form to fill out with all my details. Then, the meeting began. I started to talking to two bookers. They reviewed my completed sheet and, naturally, asked me more indepth questions.
The lion in me 🙂
I could tell they were a bit skeptical, but I felt a surge of confidence rising in me. I did my best to showcase my personaly, and my sheer enthusiasm for this job.
Then, another booker appeared. She was the one who was going to take the new polaroids. “Okay,” one of them said, ” let’s take some polas and then we’ll see.”
We went outside to shoot. At first, this new booker was unsure, too, telling me to pose more smoothly and to walk more naturally. That’s when I took a leap and told myself: “Now Sofy, it’s time to show them! Don’t give up!” So I changed my approach. I focused on being natural and even started asking her for immediate feedback, saying things like: “What do you think about this pose or this one?” Her tone slowly shifted. “Oh yeah, not bad at all!” she told me. “Yes, this pose is perfect”. We continued working for almost an hour but all that hard work paid off 🙂
At the end, all three bookers came over to me and asked me, “Do you want to be a part of this agency, because we would really love that!!”:)
The strength of never giving up!!
There were many times I doubted myself a lot, especially before I even got to the point of setting up appointments. This was also complicated by all the mess regarding school (but that’s another story). My passion for this job, however, was so strong that it outshone everything else.
This whole experience taught me that when there is something which makes you sparkle inside, you need to fight incredibly hard for it, no matter how many rejections you face.
As Vince Lombardi said, “Quitters never win, and winners never quit!!” And he is so right about that 🙂 You are limitless with infinite potential. Remember: you are so much stronger than other people’s opinions and their rejections!
Stay tuned, because sooner or later, I’ll share in Part 3, my experience with my first booking agency!
