When Healing Isn’t Linear…

You may have been told that a healing journey is a smooth journey—that with professional help, each day will be better than the last until, within a year, you’re ‘fixed’ and that things will start to make sense again. While some experience the linear path, others unfortunately do not. My own healing journey has been everything but a straight line. I’ve been fighting for years, and my path remains difficult.

A quick note: If you’re grappling with your own mental health, some parts of this article might be difficult for you to read. However, it also contains motivational insights to help you along the way. The decision to keep reading is entirely yours! ❤️❤️

Sharing a bit of My Story…❤️

As I mentioned earlier, my healing path has never been linear—even to this day. For me, depression has been a significant obstacle throughout the years, especially over the last couple of years. So far, I’ve been hospitalized twice for my deep depression, which was a true challenge for me. During the latest one, I saw clearly how healing is definitely not linear.

Sharing Raw Content…

I cried every single day in the hospital, sinking lower as the days went by. When I came back home, I continued feeling extremely depressed, even with the change of medication, and had no desire to do anything. It was as if I had pressed the stop button; everything else was moving. I, on the other hand, felt completely frozen for about four months.

Gaining Courage and More Help…

In a state of complete hopelessness, my family encouraged me to write to my psychiatrists. Even though my strength was incredibly low and I could hardly find the energy to do it, I did. After explaining the situation to them and visiting my psychiatrist near home, I was given a new medication to try.

I also found the courage to take up writing and to begin doing small but meaningful tasks at home. As you can imagine, I’m still on a long healing journey; even so, it’s the small steps that count the most. When a path is not linear, it’s crucial to take into account both the struggles and the successes.

You’re Not Stuck…❤️

I know how incredibly hard it can be to move forward when you feel completely stuck, like there is no way out of your own misery. No matter how painful and difficult your journey might be, always know there are solutions, even if they are hard to see right now. You may feel stuck, but you’re not; it doensn’t matter how much time it takes. Even if your journey has many ups and downs, focus daily on your small steps. Seek help from professionals along the way. There will be days when you feel more stuck than usual and others where you will feel better, happier, and with more courage within. Remember: this is all part of the process. ❤️

Honour Yourself…❤️

When a healing path isn’t linear, it’s easy to get discouraged and give up—even when you have already come so far. What you can do is start being kinder to yourself by honouring your journey. Otherwise, I understand how continuing to stumble, fall, succeed, and stumble again can feel overwhelming.

Moreover, learn to be patient with yourself. You’re doing something difficult; have more empathy for the person who is doing their best to keep going: you.❤️This non-linear journey may be scary, but you’re still here fighting. Honour the versions of yourself who didn’t believe you would come this far. You are more than enough, exactly where you’re supposed to be in this healing journey.

“It’s okay if your healing journey isn’t linear; you’re still a warrior gifted with resilience and beautiful things.”

Much Love and Light ❤️✨
