Your Only Competition is You! ❤️

Hey everyone!😊

Trigger warning: I want to make an important point before we begin: this article touches on subjects that might be difficult to confront at certain points, especially if you are navigating a rough patch in you life. However, it also provides motivational insights and strategies along the way! The decision to continue reading is entirely yours. ❤️

I have written another article with the theme comparison, here is the link:

The title of this post, “Your Only Competion is You,” isn’t just a catchy phrase— It’s one of the cores of your mental-health journey. We live in an age of intense pressure where it often feels like everyone is fighting to be at the top of everything, constantly trying to prove “I am the best in this, I am the best in that.” Because of this, lots of us feel behind in life. We see everyone else hitting their milestones and we feel like we are moving in any particular direction. That feeling demotivates us and make us believe that other people’s lives are perfect, especially when we’re just scrolling through their highlight reels on social media.

But here is the critical truth: your success isn’t measured by anyone else. You have your own unique story, complete with struggles and strengths that belong only to you. You are not behind in life; on the contrary, you are exactly where you need to be right now.

In this article, we’re going to dive deeper into the Comparison trap, learn how to break free from that vicious cycle, and finally embrace your true, authentic self 🙂

The Comparison Trap

The comparison trap is not something to take lightly. it’s a serious problem for many, which in turn can lead to significant emotional hurt, and bring deeper mental health problems to the surface. It is a genuine, difficult fight—and not a habit you get over easily, especially if you have been caught in that vicious cycle for years.

Comparison truly is the thief of joy, and it often does more than just steal happiness. It can be so toxic that it makes you believe someone else—like a family member, or someone you don’t know on social media—is inherently worthier or more successful than you. This feeling of falling short causes many people to give up entirely just for not meeting standards set by others.

Besides the world of social media, we face another painful source of comparison: the people in our close circles. Ironically, the friends and family we care about the most are often the ones whose achievements we measure ourselves against. Adding to this pain, we sometimes find that the people we thought had our best interest at heart actually don’t.

Sharing a bit of my story…❤️

The truth is, you never know exactly who is struggling with comparison—unless they tell you, of course. Well, I’m one of many who stuggled with this topic for years, and it lead to more than just bad days. It brought on depression, deep feelings of unworthiness, and much more.

My comparison troubles began to surface the older I got, mainly during my middle and high school years. But the reality is, the seeds were planted much earlier. I distinctly remember a day when I was drawing with my sister while at work with some family members. A family member saw both drawings and fully complimented hers, but offered me no compliment at all. That moment crushed me, and it was one of the first episodes that clearly showed me where my feelings of unworthiness began.

These last couple of years, I’ve been working hard on stopping comparison and, most importantly, being kinder to myself. But it truly is a journey; I can still be completely unkind to myself on a difficult day. I’m always learning and it’s not easy—especially when I see an acquaintance, or even people in my age or older, laughing and having fun. I, on the other hand, can still find it hard to smile and am still working to overcome my depression.

A loved one told me these wise words: “Those people may not have the heavy bag that you, on the contrary, have. You have your own story to share, while they have theirs.

Focus On You

The moment we stop laying so much importance on what others are doing, or what they possess that we do not, the entire dynamic changes. It’s the moment we realize we have our own inherent value—and that is exactly when true healing starts. That’s when we realize comparison is truly useless.

Instead of starting your day with social media, begin by prioritizing yourself.

Try these simple actions to set a healthy tone:

  • Freshen up your space: Tidy your bedroom or main area.
  • Nourish your body: Hydrate yourself and take care of your physical needs.
  • Quiet your mind: Do a meditation or write in your journal (or both😉)

When you journal, make sure to write your genuine feelings and what you are truly grateful for. Focus on the things you genuinely enjoy doing, and if one of those things is social media, learn to deal with it in a healthy, intentional way.❤️

And always remember this vital truth: there is help available, no matter how much you struggle.

Own your unique journey✨

Commit to turning your focus inward, day after day. Keep going, keep learning, and keep evolving. Remember that your journey is not defined by external standards, but by your internal values. And above all, build a life that looks good to you, not to the world.

Always hold this truth close:

You are unique, you are special, with inner resources that no one else has!!

Much Love and Light❤️✨
