In today’s society it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find inner stillness and moments of true peace. A diagnosis of an illness, the high demands of work, or perhaps the grief of losing a loved one are just a few examples of how hard it can be to feel peace and joy. With that said, it’s important to know that peace isn’t the absence of chaos, but the ability to stay anchored in the here and now while moving forward through life’s natural peaks and valleys.

Inner Peace, A Precious Resource

Inner peace should never be taken for granted under any circumstance. It is an invisible resource for sure, but a powerful one that helps you feel safe and confident. With it, you remain emotionally steady even when storms roll in. It offers an inner quiet, giving you the space to close your eyes and step away from the loud external noise and heavy expectations, if only for a moment.

Sometimes, finding this peace can feel like a luxury that seems impossible to grasp. This happens especially when life feels overwhelming and uncertain. Inner peace can be, in fact, shattered in an instant by trauma, fears, and challenges that make it harder to find and keep that quiet calm within.

My Journey: The Struggle to Stay Anchored

Like so many others, I carry my own struggles, too. From a young age, I’ve faced mental health challenges that only intensified over time. School as a child was far from peaceful; for various reasons, I rarely felt safe or calm within. I was traumatized at an early age, which had a significant impact on my well-being. As I got older, this internal worry and agony began to manifest physically through somatization—breathing difficulties, panic attacks, sweating, and more. To this day, my nervous system is still learning how to balance itself.

Finding peace within is a constant battle for me and far from an easy one. When I do feel it, I embrace it the best way I can. I always try to remain present with myself, even when it’s tough, reminding myself that it’s possible to regain that inner quiet—it just takes time to process the pain in order to feel more relaxed. Even though my inner malaise is constant, I actively hold space for the small things that make me feel calm and happy, like making my matcha or reading a feel-good book. I make sure to give thanks for those moments, too. ❤️

A Journey, Not a Destination

It’s okay if it takes time to be peaceful with yourself; inner peace isn’t a fixed finish line— it’s an ongoing, dynamic process with its highs and lows. If you’re constantly having trouble finding stillness within, don’t judge yourself. I know it’s easier said than done, but a gentle reminder costs you nothing. 🙂 Being present and mindful with yourself is a good start and a good habit, too. It’s not always that simple remaining in the here and now, but the fact that you are trying is already admirable! The more you practice, the more natural it will become, and you will start feeling safe.

Closing Thoughts

As I mentioned earlier peace isn’t the absence of chaos; it’s not about living a life free from pain. It’s about discovering a safe space within yourself—and in your environment, too—no matter how difficult the world feels outside. Be patient with your journey. Treat yourself kindly and compassionately. Each time you feel that calm within, try to be thankful, even if only for a few seconds. ❤️✨
