In the Warm Light of Autumn

There is so much beauty and a sense of calmness when autumn is just around the corner. You can truly feel the change of season in the air — crisp breezes, falling leaves, enchanting colours, and shorter days are all undeniable signs that autumn has arrived! It’s officially fall here in Northern Italy, and I couldn’t be happier. 🙂 It’s not that I don’t like summer; it’s simply the cozy, lovely, and peaceful vibes that fall brings: a sense of stillness, wearing comfortable layers, enjoying the fresh air without sweating, lighting candles, and sipping warm drinks, just to mention a few. 🍂🍁

Finding Comfort

As the temperatures slowly drop, I find a deep sense of comfort within. Wearing cozy layers, taking mindful walks to inhale the fresh air, and just admiring the colourful surroundings makes me feel so grateful. Coming back inside after a stroll feels so good! 🙂 There is a comfort in curling up in a warm blanket while having breakfast, reading a feel-good book, or watching a series.

I am embracing more and more being in the moment, mostly because it helps me stay centered and calm. Unlike summer, this season brings me true comfort, peace, and mindfulness. I have a feeling that life slows down when autumn arrives—and only in the best way. Even though the days get shorter, the atmosphere never fails to delight, especially as it gets dark: lighting candles, working on a cozy autumn collage, listening to warm music while cooking, or reading a good book by the fire are just a few examples of how to create a comfortable space.

Chestnut Picking, a Lovely Tradition

Among my favourite things to do during this season is picking chestnuts! It’s quite a tradition here in Northern Italy: many families and friends head outdoors to places where chestnuts grow. It’s a lovely activity where you get to spend quality time with your loved ones while having fun searching for them. Picking them by hand is so rewarding, especially when you get to bring them home, bake them, and enjoy them together! 🌰

An Autumn Outing in Rezzago

Just today, I went to Rezzago, in the province of Como, to pick some chestnuts myself. When we arrived, I was in awe of nature’s beauty—the vibe was lovely and it felt wonderful to be surrounded by mother nature. Walking over the fallen leaves and watching them float down from the trees is such a beautiful feeling. On the way home, I even enjoyed some delicious roasted chestnuts bought from a local stand. 🌰😍

Thick, Dark, and Cozy: Cioccolata Calda

There is no autumn without hot chocolate! 🙂 It’s another beautiful tradition we have here in Northern Italy. I love hot dark chocolate so much, and when the season arrives, I truly savour those moments. Our hot chocolate isn’t watery—it’s thick, rich, and usually served with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, often paired with a pastry. I love preparing it at home just as much as I love drinking it. But I also enjoy ordering it when I go out, as most cafes here serve it! 🍫☕

Fall & Wellbeing

Autumn is a gentle reminder that slowing down is not only okay, but necessary. Being thankful for what we do have right now is not only a healthy mindset—it reminds us to be fully present and enjoy every moment whenever possible. No matter how small those peaceful, beautiful moments are, hold them tight, as if they were a precious gift. For me, simply getting outside into the fresh air is something to be truly grateful for. Carving out moments for yourself is so important, as it helps you to stay grounded and keep going when times get tough. 🍂🍁
