A gentle note: if you are currently struggling with your mental health, some parts of this article may be difficult to read. However, it also offers motivational insights to support you along the way. The decision to keep reading is entirely up to you. ❤️❤️
It’s incredible how an illness like depression can make you feel so wrong and so low, to the point of wanting to give up. It’s truly tough living with such an illness, especially when it makes it impossible to work, to socialize, or even enjoy your hobbies. In the last couple of weeks, my depression has worsened, as if it wasn’t enough that I was already battling; suddenly, it just got worse. It’s a nasty illness, that’s for sure—and terrifying, too, when you also have to deal with suicidal thoughts. All I can think of is how I got to this point, and why me?—though I know I’m not the only one struggling. It’s so unfair that an illness can make you feel this bad. It’s not as if you’ve chosen to struggle.
The Struggle Is Real
When life pushes you in difficult directions, it can be really hard to move forward—and that’s completely understandable. After all, it’s certainly not something you signed up for. It’s okay to be mad, sad, confused; it’s not your fault if you’re not okay. It’s often the result of difficult events, struggles, or trauma that you do not have control over—such as an illness or an accident. Feeling emotionally numb and stuck, like you don’t know how to move on anymore, is deeply frustrating and painful. It’s not something you would wish on anyone, yet it happens. And when you feel like you’re not making any kind of progress, it isn’t just overwhelming—it drains your self-esteem, too.
Landing in the Here & Now
Now that we have acknowledged the pain, it’s time to seek reassurance and support. First of all, having someone you can rely on outside of your loved ones is a great start. You shouldn’t have to carry this burden alone; let someone help you along the way, such as a professional therapist. Secondly, try to slowly ground yourself in the present moment. I completely understand how challenging this can be, especially at first, but don’t let that discourage you. Keep trying and take it step by step—even being present for just a few short moments throughout the day is a big achievement. Landing in the here and now isn’t about perfection; rather, it’s about how you feel within yourself that makes all the difference.
Resilience in the Unplanned
Whatever the reason you feel stuck, know deep down how strong and resilient you are for not giving up. It takes great courage to keep going, and remember not to take that for granted. You might not have planned how much you were going to suffer, but remember that there is hope to be found at the end of the tunnel no matter how dark your situation might feel right now. Whether small or grand, write down all the things that make you feel alive, even amidst uncertainty—and try to embrace them as much as you can, even if just for a second. ❤️
A Final Reminder
Sometimes I just wish there were a magic wand that could make all the problems disappear. Alas, that isn’t possible. But what you can do is hold onto hope even when it feels meaningless, confide in someone you trust, and take things day by day. Don’t look too far ahead if it feels too much to handle right now. You will make it through this hard time. I know that might feel distant right now, but don’t let it take away today’s peace. ❤️
