Hello! 🙂 Welcome back to my blog. The other day I went to Milan, with one specific goal in mind: visiting Gelsomina. It had been a while since my last visit—about a year, actually—so it was definitely time to return!
While there used to be two locations in town, the Via Galvano Fiamma branch has closed its doors, leaving the original spot at Via Carlo Tenca 5 as the brand’s only home. You can easily walk there both from the Central Station and Repubblica; it truly remains a lovely hidden gem! Ever since 2018, we have the co-founders—Ilaria Puddu, Stefano Saturnino, and Giovanni Arbellini—to thank for this beautiful place. It’s also great to know about Sisu, a café founded and managed by Alessandro Sanso, Giuseppe Gallelo, and Silvia dell’Acqua, who have also collaborated with Gelsomina! I’m now keen to try that place, as I’m sure it will be just as good as Gelsomina! 😉
The Gelsomina Aesthetic
Let’s go back to Gelsomina now ! It’s no wonder it’s a popular destination for café culture lovers and foodies alike! 🙂 It’s one of my favourite Milano cafes, too! Its interior is so stunning and welcoming. The café has Sicilian roots and a certain Southern flair, which contributes to the aesthetic—from the display of their specialties behind the main bar, to the wallpapers and warm beige tones. The soft lights hanging from the ceiling add a sense of warmth and a real feel-good spirit.

Another lovely characteristic is the furniture: the vintage tables, chairs keep the environment cozy and charming, as do the decorations! I love that my mom and I were seated in a cute spot, fully enjoying our second breakfast while looking around to admire all the small, beautiful details. Let’s not forget the plants scattered here and there, which also give it a perfect touch of Mediterranean style!
Culinary Delights: Beyond the Aesthetic
Now, let’s focus on the food! 🙂 Even though this place is mainly a pastry shop, over time it has also become a popular oasis where you can enjoy also delightful savoury options, too.
The Sweetness of Gelsomina
One of the first things that comes to mind when you think of Gelsomina is its famous and popular home-baked maritozzi, one of the most loved sweets among the Milanese. Originating in Rome, they consist of an oval-shaped sweet bun filled with whipped cream. Here at Gelsomina, you can also have them with pistachio cream, pastry cream, and in savoury versions, too!
Aside from the renowned maritozzi, there are, of course, other pastries loved by clients, enjoyed both in the morning and in the afternoon. They offer artisanal brioches with various fillings like pistachio, as well as vegan cupcakes, pains au chocolat, and tarts. My mom tried the plumcake which she told me was absolutely delicious!
A Sweet Cuddle

Another thing that I adore about Gelsomina is the coffee; it’s like a sweet cuddle—a break you owe to yourself during the day, where you can just sit calmly, even if only for a moment. I felt that most recently while I was there—how I focused on my creamy soy cappuccino while truly taking the time to breathe and wind down.
The Savoury Side
Let’s turn our attention now to the savoury delights. At Gelsomina, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, brunch, or lunch! There are so many options to choose from! I won’t list everything on the menu :), but I can say that the food is just as authentic and high-quality as the sweet side of Gelsomina! There are Southern flavours in its cuisine, too!
I’ve tried, for example, their delicious avocado toast, which you can also have with scrambled eggs or smoked salmon. Their granola is also yummy—I had it with yoghurt, and it was so good! You can also order homemade smoothies, in addition to fresh orange juice! I’m keen to try their lunch options; well, next time! 😉
Final Thoughts
If you’re in town or plan to come to Milan, this is definitely a go-to spot for a lovely breakfast or perhaps for a lunch! It’s truly worth a visit, especially if you like to treat yourself well! 🙂 Whether if you’re searching for a yummy pastry, a soul-warming creamy cappuccino, or an oasis where you can recharge for a while—Gelsomina does not disappoint!
