When you don’t know exactly what will happen in the coming months, or even tomorrow, the pain that grows within you can trap you in an unbearable fear and anxiety that haunts you day and night. It is frightening, indeed, not having a clue if things will work out positively or not or if you’ll make it through a rather challenging period of your life without concrete facts to rely on. Facing the uncertainty of life is never easy, and we all go through those stages at some point in our lives. But when it becomes a source of deep, constant pain, it’s not okay. Let’s explore together this concept. ❤️
Accepting What We Can’t Control
Unfortunately, and as much as we would like otherwise, we can’t control the unknown. What we can do is doing our best to prevent certain things from happening or improve parts of our lives, but we can’t do more; what comes, comes. We are certainly not magicians who can predict the future, nor are we equipped with magical powers. 🙂
What we can do is accept that we cannot have everything under our control. Think how stressful it would be if we had to know everything over the next couple of months, making sure nothing gets left behind. Yes, there is certainly an advantage to knowing exacly what the future holds, but on the other hand, it can be deeply frustrating. You may want everything to be perfect, causing you to focus only on what hasn’t happened yet while forgetting to be present with yourself and the opportunities that can come up in the moment.
Mental Health and Uncertainty
I truly know from firsthand experience how challenging it is to live with a mental disorder while navigating the uncertainty of life. I struggle with depression a lot, and it’s no wonder that the words uncertainty and the future make me feel queasy and uneasy inside. In fact, depression does not allow one to look forward with enthusiasm and curiosity; that is one of the illness’s greatest challenges.
Whenever I find myself ruminating about what’s to come, I get so overwhelmed and unmotivated. That’s why I take things day by day. One of my favourite mantras is “one step at a time,” which reminds me to maintain a mindful approach in everything I do.
A Mindful Mindset for Feeling More Balanced
I’ve come to realize over time how important it is to focus on the present moment. The present is the only time we are fully aware of. The past, too—especially if it was painful and difficult—can only remind you of your struggles. If well spent, it can guide you to feeling more balanced and happy. Of course, not every waking hour can be this way; life has its ups and downs. However, if we can try to slow down a bit and look around instead of constantly worrying about tomorrow, that can already be a great start! 🙂
Breathe…
Moreover, there are different techniques to wind down when you find yourself feeling on edge: carve out some time to dedicate just to yourself and do some movement like yoga or pilates, while focusing on your breath. When you’re worried or crying, the breath is there to help you and nurture you, allowing you to stay where you are, while leaving you feeling better and rejuvenated. ❤️
Last Words
There will always be uncertainty in our lives—we can’t get rid of it—but if we learn not to give it so much weight and instead be more in the here and now, we could slowly begin to appreciate more of what life has to offer. ❤️
Much Love and Light ❤️✨
