If you step off at the Sankt Eriksplan metro station and head down Birkagatan, you’ll soon spot Matchaverket—a cozy, newly opened matcha gem. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, order a nice cup of ceremonial-grade matcha alongside a freshly baked matcha pastry, and sit mindfully while enjoying it. When I discovered this spot back in August, I was thrilled. 🙂 As a long-time matcha lover, finding an authentic matcha café in town felt like a real gift. I’ve been there at least five times, and I can safely say it does not disappoint! 🍵💚

A Minimalist Aesthetic

I fell in love with the design the moment I stepped inside. Even though it’s an intimate spot, it certainly doesn’t lack inspiration or style. The aesthetic seamlessly blends Scandinavian and Japanese influences—often referred to as Japandi—through warm wooden walls, ceramic matcha bowls, a few lush plants, and artistic, minimalist paintings hung throughout the space. Both traditions embrace uncluttered spaces, soft neutral tones, and clean lines. There is a dedicated matcha station where they craft each drink, a sleek counter where you order, and a few chairs where you can sit. The atmosphere is lovely—watching the matcha being prepared brings such a calming, soothing vibe.

On the Menu: Ceremonial Brews & Artisanal Sweets

Traditional brews & Freshly Baked Sweets

It’s great to know that Matchaverket uses exclusively ceremonial-grade matcha for their matcha drinks and sweets. On my first visit, I enjoyed a classic matcha Usucha with a matcha blondie—everything tasted divine as I sat outside in the calm atmosphere. On another visit, I tried a matcha cappuccino with almond milk, which was equally delicious, as were the Matcha Oreo cookie and iced matcha latte.

Beyond the Classic Matchas

If you’re new to matcha, its earthy flavour can sometimes be an acquired taste. In the meantime, their signature drinks—like the popular strawberry matcha— are a perfect starting point balancing a healthy dose of matcha with the natural sweetness of berries and milk. I’m keen to try their Coconut Cloud (made with cocunut water, cream, and ice) the next time I am in Stockholm, as well as and also their Earl Greay Cloud featuring Earl grey crem, milk, and ice. 🙂

Not Only Matcha…

Apart from matcha pastries, they offer delicious non-matcha treats as well, like the Black Sesame Hojicha cookie. As for the drinks, you can also order classic coffee if you are in the mood for something different.

Final Thoughts: A Must-Visit for Mindfulness & Matcha

Matcha has truly become a source of inspiration for me, in addition to offering great health benefits. It’s so nice that they opened this sanctuary on Birkagatan—a place where you can sit back, rest, and enjoy high-quality matcha mindfully. Personally, I found a spark of creative inspiration just sitting there with my drink. I highly recommend visiting if you are in town and in need of a good matcha or a feel-good drink. 😉 🍵💚
