I’m seeing more and more how important it is for me to slow down—to take things slowly, one step at a time, and not rush the process of my healing journey. Because I have a mental illness, it’s not easy to just move on with life, overcome obstacles, and fully accept what I’m going through. When I think about the future, chances are I’m going to end up in tears and waste unnecessary energy. Being anchored in the here and now gives me the space I need to breathe deeply and take what’s in front of me with more awareness and peace. If you feel the same way, I fully get it. ❤️
Living a Slow Life
First of all, slow living does not mean laziness. On the contrary, it’s a healthy way of living that includes being mindful in your everyday life, thankful for what you already have, and trying your best to step back from a fast-paced society and its expectations—especially if you suffer from anxiety or mood disorders. Of course, there are moments when living mindfully is difficult; we are human, after all. However, it’s also true that living at a slower pace starts with a choice: a decision to cultivate mindfulness, appreciation, screen-time limits, and intentionality.
Slow Living: A Feel-Good Vibe
I find that when I am mindful of myself and my surroundings, I can more easily soak in what is good. For example, when I am intentional and present in a cozy café, I can truly feel the good vibes—whether it’s the music or a nice, steaming cup of tea. Moreover, slowing down creates the quiet space I need to find inspiration everywhere.
Finding Fulfillment in Slowness
It’s good to have hobbies or simple rituals that fulfill you and give you satisfaction. They can also serve as a form of therapy when you feel low and in need of comfort. When I slow down, I enjoy baking, reading, writing, or sipping a latte with a feel-good series, just to name a few. It gives me good vibes when I knead dough, for instance, and feel my hands actively working. It’s both calming and satisfying—it soothes my mind by giving me something else to focus on, and it’s also rewarding when you get to enjoy the final result!
Mindfully Grateful
When life moves fast, it’s easy to overlook all those little moments of joy and appreciation. On the other hand, when you slow down and take time to look around, you get to be truly thankful. I take time each morning to be thankful for something—whether it is my breakfast or a hug from a loved one. I write these things down and remind myself how lucky I am to have certain things. Even when I’m really low, I try my best to find something to be grateful for. ❤️
Embrace the Pace
Living slowly is not a waste of time, nor is it something to be ashamed of. You can be productive even if you live a slow lifestyle. Personally, it gives me more peace when I don’t rush, and instead take my time. Of course, we are all different and not everyone likes to live this way; however, it wouldn’t hurt to try. 🙂 It’s also about being okay with where you are and soaking in the slow vibe.
