Own and Acknowledge Your Progress

Own and Acknowledge Your Progress

Have you ever ‘jumped’ to the next task without having first complimented yourself on your past successes? It’s a habit many of us share far too often. When we only acknowledge what’s in front of us and never look back to see all the steps we’ve taken and the efforts we’ve put in to make it happen, it can become harder to keep moving forward when things get tough. Additionally, you owe it to yourself to cherish your wins! 🙂

It’s Not Just About the Next Task…

When we only focus on the ‘next,’ we forget to be in the moment and ignore everything that came before. It’s like forgetting everything we’ve already achieved—which is a shame, because those wins remind us how capable we are—especially when we make it through a hard time.

Reflection Break

Before moving forward, take some time to reflect on these questions below:

  • The “Then vs. Now”: name at least one skill you weren’t able to do last year that you are now proud to have mastered.
  • The Micro-Progress: Think about three small tasks you did this morning that felt difficult, but you overcame.
  • The Hidden Win: have you navigated a hard time recently and forgotten to give yourself credit for your immense bravery and strength?
I’m Right There With You

I, too, struggle to own and acknowledge my wins, but I’m becoming better at embracing ‘how far I’ve come,’ despite the many struggles and obstacles I’ve faced—and continue to face—along the way. Sometimes it feels like I’m not moving forward on my healing journey, but then I’m reminded (or I find the courage to remind myself) of the steps I’ve taken recently, and that keeps me on track.

Honour The Ground You’ve Gained

It’s crucial to keep in mind not to take anything you’ve done so far for granted. Honour all the parts of yourself that made it possible to get here; give yourself a big hug for your incredible resilience in not giving up, even when everything seemed uncertain. If you want to, write down in your journal all the steps you’ve taken that made—and continue to make—you feel so strong.

Instead of rushing to the next thing, honour the ground you’ve gained so far. Take a deep breath and acknowledge where you’re standing; you worked hard to be where you are now. Never take yourself or your accomplishments for granted. You deserve to take a break, not just pass through.

You Can Do This

Each time you start doubting yourself or your potential—wondering whether you can make it or not—look back on how far you’ve already come. Take a deep breath and say: “I can do this. I have what it takes to take this step. Even if it’s a difficult one, I’ve proven to myself in the past that I could do it, so why not this time?” Our past steps are testament that we can move forward, even when it feels challenging.

“By owning my progress, step by step, I get to cherish my path even more ! :)”

Much Love and Light ❤️✨
