Biancolatte: Cozy Setting and Heartfelt Flavours

If you ever find yourself in the Repubblica area, you have to give Biancolatte a try—a lovely café and restaurant tucked away at via Turati 30. Biancolatte was one of the first cafes I truly fell in love with; going there with my mom back in high-school always made me feel good, thanks to both the atmosphere and for the food. It’s a highly appreciated café from both the locals and tourists alike. Whenever I visit, the place is quite crowded—especially with commuters grabbing their morning coffee and croissants—yet the atmosphere remains lovely, particularly once you pass the main bar and take a seat at one of their tables.

A Bit of History

Before diving into the culinary aspects and the setting of this marvelous café, I’d like to talk about its origins. It was founded almost twenty years ago, in 2007/2008, by Simona di Sarro and her two daughters, Ludovica and Valentina, who shared a dream of creating a homey, family enviroment feeling. This project, in fact, centers on a ‘Biancolatte’ aesthetic designed to evoke a sense of childhood nostalgia and cozy refinement. It was Ludovica who came up with the name Biancolatte, which perfectly captures the design and soul of this place.

The Story Behind the Spoons

Biancolatte’s logo is beautifully and thoughtfully designed. Characterized by three teaspoons representing the philosophy of the founders, it mirrors the gentle warmth of childhood; furthermore, this space encourages a slower pace of life, serving as a peaceful oasis from the modern rush. Rather than trading its intimate, wholesome charm for a more commercial feel, Biancolatte remains true to its roots. The logo itself was designed by Simona.

Chic Simplicity: A Haven of Seasonal Charm

Biancolatte’s interior was inspired by the atmosphere and concept of Milan’s traditional latterie. Their aim was to transform the traditional ‘latteria’ into a cozy, modern café, pastry shop, gelateria, and restaurant, complete with a unique gift shop—and they have successfully achieved it! Each time I return, I feel the good vibes warming my soul and my heart. The whole space inspires me through its many fine, charming details and decorations, which reflect the themes of the place—such as childhood, a feeling of home, and the comfortable simplicity of the ‘milky’ white walls and furniture.

Another lovely thing about Biancolatte is their talent for decorating this beloved den according to the season or holiday. For example, I absolutely love visiting when Christmas is in the air; they truly do such a wonderful job every year! The festive decor makes me want to stay longer, just to soak in the atmosphere! 🙂

From Breakfast to Dinner: A Taste of Home

We’ve finally arrived at the heart of the experience: the food! 🙂 It’s wonderful to see how Biancolatte focuses on simple genuine ingredients—the kind a grandmother would use in her own kitchen.

Whether you are in the mood for something sweet or savoury, this place won’t disappoint! There are many delights to choose from on the menu—or you can also head directly to the main bar if you’re craving their homemade gelato, a cupcake, or another small sweet treat.

For an afternoon treat, there is a nice selection of home-baked cakes and pastries. If you’re visiting during the fall or winter, I highly recommend trying their delicious hot dark chocolate with whipped cream—it is one of my absolute favourites I have ever tasted!

Breakfast and Brunch

For many, the Biancolatte experience begins in the morning; as I mentioned earlier, some are in a rush and prefer to eat standing at the counter, but if you have the time, you can enjoy your breakfast more leisurely while sitting comfortably in one of the dining rooms where a waiter will take your order. I can personally say that their capuccino is excellent, as are their croissants. Furthermore, you can choose from fresh juices, pancakes, yoghurts, scrambled eggs and other delicacies.

If you want to enjoy a proper brunch, make sure to visit on Saturday or Sunday! I’ve been here in the morning several times, and if you’re looking for a recommendation, I highly suggest their delicious avocado toast!

Lunch and Dinner

While Biancolatte is mostly recognized as a café, it also serves wonderful lunches and dinners. They use high-quality ingredients that are truly worth a try. I’ve eaten there for both lunch and dinner and I’ve always been satisfied by their delightful, wholesome dishes. One time, I had the fresh homemade trofie with basil cream; each bite tasted like heaven. 🙂 Another time, I ordered a comforting green soup, and on a different occasion a poke bowl! The atmosphere changes during the evening; it becomes even cozier with lighted candles, and it’s usually more tranquil than the bustling lunch hours.

A “Cuddle” to Take Home

Whether you come here for a quick coffee stop or for an enjoyable brunch with your friends or family, it feels like a warm hug or a small cuddle to take away with you—a moment for yourself where you can take in the sweetness of the atmosphere. Don’t forget to take a look at their gift shop before you leave, which I like so much! There you can find jewelry, stuffed animals, and charming home decorations.
