How do you actually feel when you read the main title of this article? Good or bad? Try to be honest with yourself. Personally, I’m not feeling so good; my whole being is shaking and my chest feels tightened, as if I can’t breathe normally. It’s normal to feel uneasy when you have so much to work through without knowing if it will all work out in the end—whether you’re ending a difficult marriage, you’re struggling with a mental illness, or trying to start something new without knowing when an opportunity will present itself. The words “it will take time” can sound painful for most people struggling, and I can’t deny that truth; yet, there is a certain beauty in the slow approach, too. ❤️
Redefining the Meaning of Courage
Courage does not only mean facing complicated ordeals; you can choose to be courageous in your everyday life by facing smaller but significant challenges that lead you to take the leap. You don’t have to be Superman and save the world in a day; take small steps every day, reminding yourself to cheer for your resilience and strength to keep going. Also, don’t forget to pat yourself on the back when you’re in the middle of something difficult, and acknowledge how far you’ve already come.
I am also facing many ordeals in my life, and what I’ve learned over time is that I can’t accomplish everything in a short period of time. It’s a long journey, but that doesn’t mean I’m not bold. I try to tell myself as many times I can that I’m brave every day, if only to prevent myself from falling apart emotionally. This article, for example, is a sign of courage for me. ❤️
The Beauty in the Slow
I suggest you learn to walk through your journey instead of just running; there is surely a better outcome if we learn to walk, and there is nothing wrong with that. When you walk, you can better notice things and come up with new ideas; there is also a better chance that you feel calmer and more focused.
Remind yourself to focus only on your own journey; if someone you know is going faster than you, let them. Don’t let yourself be pulled down by that. I totally understand that it can feel tempting to compare, but we are all unique, with completely different stories. From my point of view, it’s better to walk and see what’s coming step by step than to rush and miss seeing your achievements.
Being Okay With Where You Are
Being “okay” with where you are doesn’t mean you’re giving up; rather, you allow yourself to grow slowly and to be in the present moment. When you’re present, your mind is clearer, too. It’s the realization that things take time. For instance, if I’m still shaking to the bones and I have difficulty breathing, it’s a part of the process for me to acknowledge and accept, but that doesn’t mean I’m lost. This, too, is part of my journey; I’m just passing through.
Final Words
No matter how long your journey might take, don’t give up—even on the hardest days or periods of life. It’s okay if it takes years to overcome something difficult; just remember that you can do this and that you are courageous. It’s going to be tough and it’s going to require time, but you will become even bolder with each chapter of your story. 🙂 ❤️
